“When I was searching in 1977 for a place to make the first Star Wars movie, I found Tunisia the ideal country for filming: beautiful countryside, unique architecture and a very high level of technical sophistication.” George Lucas.

Tunisia has been the part-location for several Star Wars movies. Since the mid-1970s, when George Lucas first arrived in this diverse North African country looking for inspiration for his original 1977 movie, the shimmering desert landscapes of the Sahara Desert and otherworldly architectural styles found in other parts of the country have often been a feature of this highly successful franchise.

Following in the footsteps of Luke Skywalker, this Star Wars-themed Tunisian holiday is suitable for adults and children alike and is the perfect family adventure. After exploring the capital, Tunis, you will fly to the island of Djerba where many memorable scenes from the fictional desert planet of Tatooine were shot.

Heading off overland, your journey will take you through dramatic scenery via curious-looking structures associated with this epic space opera. A sunken cave-dwelling that was used as the interior of the Lars family homestead, an abandoned ksour (fortified granary) that portrayed the slave quarters of Mos Espa, and an atmospheric film set that is still remarkably intact despite being slowly swallowed by the encroaching sands of the Sahara: all of these locations and more are included on this specialist Tunisian holiday.

For die-hard Star Wars fans, this is a pilgrimage of sorts, but with plenty more of interest incorporated into the itinerary, including bustling medinas, glorious beaches and UNESCO World Heritage sites, even those with merely a passing interest in the movies will enjoy this well-balanced ten-day privately guided Tunisian holiday.
