Tour Overview
DELHI • AGRA •* JAIPUR • PUSHKAR • JODHPUR • NARLAI • UDAIPUR
The Pushkar Camel Fair is held over the full moon of Kartik Purnima. It provides visitors with an unbeatable opportunity to immerse themselves in rural India and discover the vibrancy of its beating soul.
Rajasthan’s most famous festival (mela), the Pushkar Camel Fair, combines livestock trading with a religious celebration and attracts tens of thousands of camels and other livestock – along with hundreds of thousands of visitors – including joyful pilgrims, exotic priests, magicians, bards, poets, and villagers sporting giant turbans, shimmering sarees, and resplendent moustaches. The usually peaceful town of Pushkar reverberates with music, merriment and prayer in a carnival-like atmosphere throughout the fair. It is the focal point of this private tour.
While in Pushkar, you will stay in Rajasthani-style tents and be guided through the fairground so that you may observe first-hand the Rabari tribes trading thousands of camels, horses and other livestock; witness hard-fought camel races and admire the camel beauty pageant featuring face-painted camels beautifully adorned with intricately fashioned jewellery.
Combined with the indelible magic of the Pushkar Camel Fair on this tour are visits to the incredible riches of India’s Golden Triangle, the splendid Mehrangarh fort at Jodhpur and an immersion in rural Rajasthan that concludes with an excursion to the sparkling blue waters of Udaipur’s Lake Pichola. (Pushkar Camel Fair is held annually in late October / early November).
