Tour Overview

CAIRO • LUXOR • ABYDOS • NILE CRUISE • ABU SIMBEL

This private tour of Egypt is led by an expert Egyptologist guide and delivers an in-depth immersion into the mysteries, monuments, religion and lifestyle of the ancient Egyptians. Putting you centre stage, Carnarvon’s Egypt will provide one fascinating unbroken narrative on Egyptian civilisation as you journey through the ‘Two Lands’.

Travel beyond the great pyramids of Giza to learn about the origins of pyramid construction at Saqqara and see the curious pyramids at Dashur. Spend a full day exploring the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) – a must for anyone who wants to do justice to this unique, spellbinding collection. While in Upper Egypt, we’ll take you off the beaten track to visit Abydos, the cult centre of Osiris, god of the underworld, and to see the amazingly well-preserved Temple of Hathor at Dendera. No archaeologically focused tour of Egypt would be complete without having at least a full day dedicated to discovering the stunning rock-cut tombs and mortuary temples on Luxor’s West Bank. You’ll also see the massive Temples of Amon-Ra at Karnak – the origin of all creation – when floodlit.

A relaxed Nile Cruise will then bring you to the beautiful temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo. In Aswan, your private Egyptologist will guide you around the Temple of Isis on Philae Island. Concluding the remarkable journey that is the Private Egyptologist Tour: Carnarvon’s Egypt is a visit to the mighty rock-cut temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel – the ultimate symbol of ancient Egyptian power.

Meet your private Egyptologist guide for the next nine days and set off on a full-day tour of the mighty pyramid complexes outside Cairo. The Stepped Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara will be your first stop. Comprised of six massive steps, it once rose to a height of 62 metres. Nearby, at Dashur are the distinctive ‘Bent’ and the ‘Red’ pyramids. The latter structure is believed to have been the first successful attempt at constructing a ‘true’ smooth-sided pyramid. In the afternoon, tour the pyramid complex at Giza. Visit the Museum of the Solar Boat, and see the enigmatic Sphinx – said to portray the image of the 4th dynasty Pharaoh Kafre.

Day 3 Egyptian Museum
