Tour Overview
MANALI • KEYLONG • SARCHU • TSO MORIRI • LEH • NUBRA VALLEY
Embark on one of the most incredible mountain journeys in the world and discover the myths and legends of the Himalayan Silk Road on this stunning overland private tour travelling from the banks of the roaring Beas River in the foothills of the Himalaya to the arid high-altitude Tibetan plateau surrounding Leh – the ‘Staircase to Heaven’.
This epic journey is an adventure in all senses of the word (with some basic accommodation) that is designed to uncover the region’s exotic past when caravans plied the ancient Silk Road, wandering holy men and enlightened masters introduced new religions, and Ladakh was a strategic hub where people exchanged new ideas and philosophies.
Combining culture with adventure, highlights of the journey include: negotiating a series of five high-altitude passes, including the Tanglang La pass (5,330m) and the Khardung La pass (5,360m), navigating the dramatic Gata loops with its 22-sharp hairpin bends, walking along the shores of Tso Moriri – the stunningly beautiful high-altitude turquoise-coloured lake, and riding a Bactrian camel across the dunes of the ‘Desert in the Sky’ in Hunder.
This Himalayan Silk Road adventure will also showcase the beautiful art treasures and vibrant murals of Ladakh’s medieval Buddhist monasteries and explore the sublime Nubra valley. India’s most northerly outpost, the remote village Turtuk in Baltistan, marks the journey’s end, where (weather permitting) you may glimpse the forbidding peak of K2 (8,611m), the second highest mountain on Earth. This overland journey from Manali to Leh Himalayan Silk Road tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
