Begin your private Gujarat tour in the walled city of Ahmedabad. This bustling metropolis has preserved its rich multi-cultural heritage, including 15th-century Sultanate period monuments. Then, discover the largest man-made dock from the Harappan period at Lothal before arriving at the small town of Palitana, which is an ideal base to climb up to the summit of the sacred Shatrunjaya Hill and visit the splendid Palitana Jain Temples dating back to the 11th century.
Next, enjoy thrilling jeep safaris through the picturesque Sasan Gir National Park, where Asiatic Lion sightings are virtually guaranteed. Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Ahmedabad; walking tour of Old Ahmedabad
Land at Ahmedabad International Airport under your own arrangements (if you would like a quote for international flights, please ask us). This evening, enjoy a heritage walk through old Ahmedabad, which is lined with beautiful havelis (old townhouses), including some in an atmospheric state of ruin with striking facades showcasing traditional Gujarati architecture from the 17th century.

Day 2 Ahmedabad
Spend the morning at the Calico Museum of Textiles, which has an exquisite collection of hand-embroidered and printed fabrics, including the opulent tent of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Ahmedabad that showcases some of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in India, dating back to the time of Ahmed Shah of the Gujarat Sultanate.
Day 3 Ahmedabad, arrive in Palitana
Begin your day with a visit to the tranquil Sabarmati Ashram on the banks of the River Sabarmati, which was once the official residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Next, proceed to Lothal, where a guided walk will take you back 4,500 years to the Harappan Civilisation. Then, continue to the small town of Palitana, an excellent base for visiting the splendid Jain Temples.

Day 4 Palitana; arrive Sasan Gir National Park
Rise early and climb up to the summit of the sacred Shatrunjaya Hill and visit the splendid Jain Temple. From the foot of the hill to the summit, there are 3,800 stone-cut steps and atop the hill is a cluster of Jain temples built by generations of Jains over a period of 900 years. Whilst all the 863 shrines are considered sacred, the temple dedicated to Adishwara, the first Jain apostle, is the most revered and striking. Afterwards, descend and drive to Sasan Gir National Park.

Day 5 Sasan Gir National Park
Enjoy early morning and late afternoon private jeep safaris in search of the endangered Asiatic Lion and other wildlife.
Day 6 Sasan Gir National Park, arrive Gondal
Rise early and return to Sasan Gir National Park for one final jeep safari. Then, proceed to the small town of Gondal. Later this afternoon, explore Gondal. The tour includes a visit to the 18th-century Naulakha Palace.

Day 7 Junagadh
Spend the day exploring the former princely state of Junagadh. Your tour includes a visit to the ancient Uparkot Fort, the ornate 19th-century Mahabat Maqbara tomb and the impressive 15th-century Jama Masjid that reveals influences of the Gujarat Sultans.
Day 8 Farewell to Gujarat
Set off this morning to Rajkot airport, where, on arrival, you will check in for your onward flight.

Notes
Classic Gujarat is a private tour that can operate on any day of the week. The best time to visit Gujarat is between October and April. High Season falls in November and February, with a peak season applying over New Year and Easter. Low season typically runs from May to mid-September. It should be noted that Sasan Gir National Park is closed to visitors between 16 June and 15 October.
