Tour Overview
TUNIS • CARTHAGE • BARDO • OUDNA • ZAGHOUAN • HAMMAMET • NABEUL • TAKROUNA • SOUSSE • MONASTIR • EL DJEM • KAIROUAN
This private holiday to Tunisia highlights the country’s growing collection of boutique hotels and luxury guesthouses. Staying in character accommodation known locally as ‘dars’, these historic houses were once the homes of wealthy families and are the Moroccan equivalent of ‘riads’. Sometimes described as Maison de Charmes, we have hand-picked some of Tunisia’s most attractive boutique hotels for this relaxed-pace tour of Tunisia’s highlights.
Spend time in Tunis exploring the streets of the walled medieval medinas of Tunis and admiring the magnificent mosaics in the Bardo Museum. Other sightseeing highlights include visiting holy Kairouan – Islam’s fourth holiest site – and El Djem’s virtually intact Roman amphitheatre. However, the emphasis is on slow travel with plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere of Tunisia’s coastal towns and charming accommodations.
You will travel by chauffeur-driven car, and your sightseeing will be accompanied by a private English-speaking guide throughout your trip.
Itinerary

Day 2 Tunis, Bardo, Carthage
Begin your Tunis sightseeing by exploring the city’s thronging souqs and grand monuments within its walled medina. After lunch in a beautiful old mansion, visit the famed Bardo Museum where a world-class collection of brilliantly executed Roman mosaics and sculptures is displayed. End the day with a visit to the ruins of ancient Carthage.
Day 3 Visit Oudna, Zaghouan, arrive Hammamet
Leaving Tunis, you will first visit the former Berber settlement at Oudna. Roman Uthina was founded during the reign of Octavian Augustus and is one of the oldest Roman colonies in Africa. Continue to Zaghouan, a charming village at the foot of Jebel Zaghouan, surrounded by orchards and famous for its mountain spring water. Zaghouan shows signs of Andalusian influence, but little remains from its time under the Roman occupation of Tunisia, when the town was known as Ziqua, apart from the large triumphal arch standing in the main street. Continue to the beautiful historic medina of Hammamet.
Day 4 Hammamet
At leisure on the Cap Bon peninsula.
Day 5 Takrouna, Sousse, Monastir
Leaving Hammamet, visit the abandoned hilltop Berber village of Takrouna before continuing to Sousse, where you will have a walking tour through the city’s beguiling walled medina, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. Arrive in Monastir, where you will see the imposing mausoleum of the first President of the Tunisian Republic, Habib Bourguiba, and the city’s very fine ribat (fortress) before checking into your hotel.
Day 6 Monastir
At leisure in Monastir.
Day 7 Monastir
At leisure in Monastir.
Day 8 El Djem, Kairouan, Tunis
Heading inland, your journey today will first take you to El Djem to visit the magnificent Roman amphitheatre – a structure that is in a better state of preservation than the Colosseum in Rome. Continue to Kairouan, a city revered as the fourth most important holy city in the Muslim world after only Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Visit the Great Mosque of Okba, one of Kairouan’s most impressive sights and stroll through the medina and souqs, home to the Mosque of the Three Doors. Return to Tunis, where your base will be picturesque Sidi Bou Said.
ACCOMMODATION (2 nights)
Sapphire: Dar Said Hotel (Sea Facing Room)
Diamond: La Villa Bleue (Junior Suite)
Day 9 Sidi Bou Said

Day 10 Farewell to Tunisia
A private transfer will take you from your hotel to Tunis International Airport, where you will check in for your onward flight.
