Tour Overview

KOLKATA • KOHIMA • MOKOKCHUNG • MON • BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER CRUISE • KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

The Assam and Nagaland tour is an epic adventure through India’s north-eastern frontier. This colourful and little-known region has incredible ethnic diversity and is culturally distinct from the rest of the country. Visiting the remote Naga villages, home to proud indigenous tribal communities practising ancient customs, is the undoubted highlight of the Assam and Nagaland tour.

While traversing through Nagaland’s picturesque blue-hued mountains, you’ll see the Angami people at Kigwema and Jakhama, interact with the Ao tribe in Longkhum and Ungma, and encounter the Konyak tribe in the remote district on Mon on the Burmese border. Then, on leaving the stunning hills of Nagaland behind you, emerge onto the plains of Assam, where the next stage of the Assam and Nagaland tour will commence. A private two-night houseboat cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra River continues the adventurous tone of this journey. It is the ultimate way to travel between Assam’s sleepy riverside villages, riverine islands, and lush tea gardens. After disembarking from your private cruise, you’ll see one of India’s best wild parks, Kaziranga, where you’ll experience the thrill of searching for the endangered one-horned rhino amongst the emerald green forests and tall green grasses.

Kolkata and the Rajbari Bawali, a wonderfully restored Nabob’s residence, are the start and end points of this journey through India’s northeast. Guests should be aware that hotels in parts of Nagaland are simple and that the roads are poor; but, if you are up for an adventure, the Assam and Nagaland tour will showcase the best of these two immensely diverse and scenic states and enable you to immerse yourself in the unique local cultures.
