Tour Overview
RIYADH • ALULA • MEDINA • JEDDAH
The Saudi & AlUla Explorer is a privately chauffeured introductory tour that reveals some of the desert kingdom’s most magical cultural highlights, including three UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the breathtaking oasis and desert scenery of AlUla. Your journey commences in Riyadh, where the story of modern Saudi Arabia begins. While in the Saudi capital, explore the exquisite mudbrick architecture of Diriyah, a World Heritage Site, visit the National Museum and view the impressive skyscrapers in downtown Olaya – including the Kingdom Tower.
Then, fly to the desert oasis of AlUla – Saudia Arabia’s brightest cultural jewel – where your home will be a resort within a breathtaking desert canyon. The desert is strikingly contrasted with the sewn in AlUla. A 4WD desert safari outside the oasis will reveal an unworldly desert landscape of yellow sands and weathered rocks – including the iconic Jabal Al Feel (Elephant Rock) – while a walk through the shaded life-giving oasis will quickly reveal why AlUla became an important meeting point of the Silk Road and the Arabian Incense Route. Tours in private vintage-style Land Rover’s will also reveal centuries-old rock art at Jabal Ikmah, as well as the 2,000-year-old Lion Tombs of Dadan, and the unforgettable rock-hewn tombs of Hegra – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that had been ‘lost’ to the world until their ‘rediscovery’ in 1876.
A road journey through desert and lava flows will then bring you to Medina — Islam’s second most holy site — where you will view the outside of the Prophet’s Mosque and absorb the unique atmosphere in this place of pilgrimage. A High-Speed train journey will bring you to Jeddah — the Bride of the Red Sea — where you’ll discover one of the finest old towns in the Middle East, and your introductory tour of Saudi Arabia concludes.

Day 4 AlUla

AlUla’s stunning natural beauty, as well as its fascinating past, will be revealed on today’s tour. Your first stop will be the Maraya, the world’s largest mirrored building. A private tour in a vintage-style Land Rover with a local ‘Rawi’ (storyteller) will then take you to the 2000-year-old city of Dadan (noted for its Lion Tombs) and to Jabal Ikmah’s to see the centuries-old rock art. Set off this afternoon on a 4WD adventure to see the striking desert canyons, golden dunes, and weathered terracotta-hued mountains that lie just outside AlUla. Conclude your sightseeing with a visit to Elephant Rock.
Day 5 Hegra, arrive Medina

Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s premier archaeological attraction, will be your destination this morning. On arrival at this UNESCO World Heritage Site, tour the rock-hewn tombs of the ‘second Petra’ in a private vintage-style Land Rover with a local ‘Rawi’ (storyteller). Day 6 Medina, Train to Jeddah

Today is dedicated to exploring Medina, Islam’s second most holy city. Anciently known as Yathrib, the city was renamed Medina by the Prophet Mohammad after he and his followers were welcomed following their flight from Mecca – an event known as the ‘Hijrah’. Pilgrims recreate this journey every year as part of the Hajj. Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter the city’s mosques – but can now visit the previously off-limits ‘Haram’ area where the main places of pilgrimage, including the vast Prophet’s Mosque, are located. Early evening travel by High-Speed train to Jeddah on the Red Sea coast.
ACCOMMODATION (2 nights)
Sapphire: Sheraton Jeddah Hotel (Sea View Room – Main Building)
Diamond: Park Hyatt Hotel (Sea View Room)
Day 7 Jeddah

Jeddah, known as the ‘Bride of the Red Sea’, has been the port for nearby Mecca for centuries. Start your sightseeing at the Tayebat Museum – a fine example of traditional Hijazi architecture – then drive along the beautiful manicured modern seafront Corniche to the ‘floating Mosque’. This afternoon, the new city is juxtaposed with the old one as you walk through Mecca Gate and enter Jeddah’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Al Balad district. The lively souqs and multi-story houses built of coral stone with their distinctive ‘roshan’ wooden windows provide a fascinating insight into an age-old way of life in Saudi Arabia.
Day 8 Farewell to Saudi Arabia

Private transfer to Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport and check in for your onward flight.
