An affordable 19th-century mansion that was almost forgotten for nearly 100 years
Perched atop a hillock and surrounded by lush mustard fields, Tijara Fort Palace is a 19th-century mansion that effortlessly combines Rajput-Afghan style with distinct colonial influences and is one of the most recent as well as exciting additions to Neemrana’s collection of character-rich heritage hotels in India. Conceived as a royal residence in the 19th century, the construction of Tijara Fort Palace was abandoned midway after the premature passing away of Maharaja Balwant Singh in 1822. The fort was almost forgotten and left to ruin for nearly 100 years before ten years of painstaking restoration work transformed Tijara Fort Palace into a heritage-style hotel in 2017.
Set amongst eight acres of lush mature gardens, this hotel comprises three wings: the Rani Mahal was originally meant to be the private residential quarter of the Maharani, while the Mardana Mahal, with its spacious garden courtyard, was where the Maharaja would have planned to carry out his royal duties and Hawa Mahal must have been conceived as a venue for the various cultural events held at the palace. What distinguishes Tijara Fort Palace from other heritage hotels is that each of its seventy rooms has been exquisitely designed by a renowned artist, and whilst all rooms pay tribute to the glorious past of Tijara Fort Palace – they showcase its creator’s creative and artistic traits.
With exquisite frescoes and mirror work, the traditional yet modern bedrooms and suites are relatively simple, yet each is beautiful and unique. Food is an integral part of life at Tijara Fort Palace, and while the cuisine is predominantly Rajasthani, the lack of variety is more than made up by the delicious food and the extraordinary flavours. Choose to dine in the elegant dining room or the courtyard for a private dining experience. Other facilities include an outdoor pool and a spa.
