Historic hotel on Alexandria's corniche

The historic Steigenberger Cecil Hotel overlooks Alexandria’s harbour and yacht club and is famously featured in Lawrence Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet books. The property, which has a superb location on Alexandria’s corniche, was built in 1929 and possesses many attractive period features from Alexandria’s pre-Second World War heyday. The 86 ensuite rooms and suites are equipped with television, internet access, a safety deposit box and a minibar, but they are somewhat dated in appearance.

The Steigenberger Cecil Hotel offers a choice of in-house dining options, including its fine-dining French restaurant, Plats D’Or. For a drink, the Monty Bar (named after General Bernard Montgomery, who was based at the Cecil Hotel for part of WWII) or the rooftop bar, with superb views over Alexandria harbour, are the place to go. Additional facilities include a lobby gift shop.
