Six Senses Thimphu

Affectionately called the Palace in the Sky, the Six Senses Thimphu is a chic, luxury retreat and undoubtedly the place to stay in Bhutan’s fascinating capital city. Perched on a hillside, this tranquil retreat with its own reflective pond and a prayer pavilion is surrounded by pine forests and apple orchards and is designed to offer stunning vistas of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Inspired by traditional Bhutanese architecture, this elegant lodge combines contemporary minimalist style with subtle locally-inspired motifs and strives to reflect the Bhutanese values: simplicity and harmony. At The Six Senses Thimphu, all 25 spacious suites and villas are decorated in warm, neutral tones and feature an open-plan sitting area with a wood-burning stove, a spacious bedroom, and a bathroom equipped with rain shower, double vanity and stand-alone tub.

All rooms and villas are designed to take in the magnificent mountain scenery and come with oversized private decks and floor-to-ceiling windows to flood the rooms with natural light. While the suites are generously sized, if you decide to splurge, we recommend a one-bedroom villa with its own private courtyard and indoor and outdoor living spaces.

For families and those travelling with friends, there are two and three-bedroom villas to choose from, and these feature a private traditional hot stone bath and a private spa. At the Six Senses Thimphu, delicious traditional Bhutanese and international cuisine is served at Namkha – the lodge’s only restaurant.

On request, there is also the option to dine in the privacy of your own room. Other facilities include a bar, an indoor heated pool and a spa offering a range of treatments to relax and revitalise.
