Palatial, all-suite retreat set within a historic 700-year-old fort
Six Senses Fort Barwara is a palatial, all-suite retreat set within a lovingly restored, historic 700-year-old Fort that once belonged to the Rajputana Royals. This exclusive, ultra-chic resort is a modern interpretation of a stately Rajasthani royal residence. Its thoughtful design offers guests a luxurious taste of the world of India’s glamorous princely rulers. It took more than a decade of conservation efforts to protect the original fort structure, while conscientious efforts reforested the protected land surrounding this 14th-century fort. Today, weaving together the Mardana Mahal (Palace for the Royal Men), the Zenana Mahal (Palace for the Royal Women) and the two original temples with local art depicting the rich history of the region and traditional gardens punctuated with water features, Six Senses Fort Barwara has superbly recreated the regal and gracious ambience of a glorious bygone era.
Accommodation at this serene, luxury retreat comprises 48 spacious one-bedroom suites, including five speciality suites, housed within the historic fort’s walls. Each suite is elegantly designed and effortlessly combines contemporary state-of-the-art in-room technology with traditional Rajasthani motifs to complement the fort’s architecture. While Suites in the East Wing overlook the countryside, those in the West Wing offer views of Barwara village and beyond.
Dining at the Six Senses Fort Barwara is a treat. Guests have an eclectic range of options to choose from, including The Cortile – the main dining room, which serves cuisines from around the world and is located within a leafy 16th-century courtyard, Roohani – a speciality restaurant serving seasonal menus curated by Guest Chefs and set overlooking the historic domes of the fort and Rani Bagh, which serves fresh, fast casual cuisine from an open kitchen. For sundowners, guests should head to The Viewing Gallery, which offers outstanding views across Barwara Lake. At the same time, The Rajawat Room, located within the Mardana Mahal, is ideal for creative cocktails and fine spirits to be enjoyed after dinner.
Leisure facilities include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 30,000 sq ft (2,800 sqm) Six Senses Spa and fitness centre within the Zanana Mahal, a library with a wide selection of books and a children’s club offering indoor and outdoor fun activities for kids. Activities on offer include guided walks to nearby villages, cooking classes, private jeep safaris through Ranthambore National Park, hikes through the surrounding countryside with picnic lunches and daily fitness and yoga classes.
