Rural resort on the outskirts of Punakha
RKPO Green Resort sits in a beautiful rural location overlooking the hills just outside Punakha. It is an easy 30-minute walk across the rice fields from the famed Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility).
This recently built property is a good affordable base from which to explore the attractions in the surrounding region and combines traditional Bhutanese and modern architectural styles. RKPO Green Resort’s 42 ensuite rooms and suites are located on terraces behind the hotel. Rooms are spacious and equipped with television, minibar, Wi-Fi, and tea/coffee-making facilities.
The bathrooms have a shower and separate bathtub. It should be noted that to reach some of the rooms, it is necessary to negotiate a considerable number of steps.
Wi-Fi access can also be patchy away from the main lobby. The hotel’s buffet restaurant offers Bhutanese, Indian and Western dishes. A handicraft shop is located just off the main lobby.
Stairs lead up from here to the curiously named Phallus bar. Outside RKPO Green Resort is an attractive outside terrace with a firepit with fine views over the beautiful countryside and is also the location for the daily cultural shows. Mountain bikes are available for hire.
