Pangong Sarai

Offering unrivalled views of the expansive, azure blue Pangong Tso Lake, the simple yet comfortable Pangong Sarai is undoubtedly the best place to experience this high-altitude lake’s magnificent setting. Inspired by the traditional Mongolian Yurts, each of the thirty-two spacious tents is made from thick windproof material and features a thoughtfully designed bedroom with large picture windows to take in the glorious views of the shimmering blue lake. The ensuite bathroom has a wash basin, a Western-style loo and a shower cubicle. There are also four mud cottages, ideal for those who want the comfort of a solid wall. The warm and welcoming cottages are designed in Ladakhi style, with low ceilings and square windows decorated in vibrant colours that reveal a Tibetan influence. At the Pangong Sarai, meals are prepared from locally sourced ingredients and served in the central dining area.

The menu changes daily and features local specialities such as momos, tigmo (fermented bread served with stew), and a small selection of Indian and Continental cuisine. Activities at Pangong Sarai include cookery classes, yoga lessons by the lake, guided walks and bicycle rides along the lakeshore to surrounding villages. Pangong Sarai is the only Pangong Tso hotel that provides heating throughout the high season (June to September).
