Palais Bayram

Palais Bayram is an architectural gem in the oldest part of Tunis’ vibrant labyrinthine medina. Once the residence of the Grand Mufti of Tunis, Palais Bayram was built in the late 18th century and has been meticulously restored to its former glory.

Guests enter this gorgeous historic property with its unassuming street façade through a heavy traditional Tunisian door leading to a ‘Driba’- a sizeable vaulted vestibule. A ‘Skifa’, a corridor that protects the house’s privacy, opens onto a beautiful courtyard around which the bedrooms and public areas are arranged over several stories.

The property is richly decorated with intricate jagged stucco, tilework, rare ceramics and painted wood, giving guests the privileged feeling of staying in a museum. Striking examples of traditional design and skilled craftsmanship can be discovered around almost every corner!

Accommodation at Palais Bayram is in 16 spacious air-conditioned and attractively appointed rooms and suites. Each room is individually decorated and is equipped with satellite television, Wi-Fi, fine linens, luxurious towels and a modern ensuite bathroom. In our opinion, the beauty and character of the suites make them well worth the upgrade.

Facilities at Palais Bayram include a traditional hammam (must be booked in advance) and a restaurant offering tasty Tunisian cuisine (alcohol is not served). There are excellent views over Tunis’s Medina from Palais Bayram’s rooftop.
