Boutique guest house in the heart of Patan

Situated in Patan, one of the Kathmandu Valley’s three royal cities, The Inn is ideal for those seeking a boutique guest house experience in a quieter part of the city.

Built out of red brick and timber and beautifully restored by conservation architect Rohit Ranjitkar, the 100-year-old Newari house retains many of its original features; the sympathetic renovation provides the comforts of a modern hotel with all the charm of an older building. Located in the heart of UNESCO-listed Patan Durbar Square, a stay at The Inn allows one to explore the local lifestyle and historical architecture.

The ten suite rooms are set around a traditional courtyard and are individual in design. Many feature high ceilings with wooden beams and have been decorated with traditional Nepalese fabrics and carpets. The rustic-style dining room serves delicious Nepalese and Newari cuisine.

Some points to note: Rooms are neither air-conditioned nor centrally heated, although fans, heaters, and electric blankets are provided seasonally. Solar energy provides hot water, although there is a backup generator. Finally, tall travellers should be aware that Newari homes often have low doorways. Furthermore, some travellers find the sound insulation is not as effective as they’d like in older buildings of this nature. Despite these shortcomings, The Inn at Patan maintains very favourable feedback from guests who enjoy a more intimate experience.
