The finest mountain lodges in the Annapurna foothills

Mountain Lodges of Nepal offers a collection of six simple yet delightful purpose-built mountain lodges in the Annapurna Conservation Area. The lodges are designed to offer guests the opportunity to trek in the Himalaya and drink in the glorious views in comfort. All six lodges occupy striking locations within the Annapurna Mountain range and have been thoughtfully built while remaining faithful to traditional Nepalese design and decor.

Set about a half day’s walk from each other, each of the six lodges features between 8 and 12 comfortably furnished rooms and is fully staffed with an attentive team comprising a resident manager and support staff. From comfortable ensuite bedrooms to delicious, healthy food and outstanding locations, these lodges are undoubtedly the best on offer while trekking in this region of Nepal.

Majgaon Lodge: Situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres, Majgaon Lodge (previously Gurung Lodge) is built to resemble tribal-style houses and offers accommodation in 11 comfortable rooms. All rooms feature high ceilings, ensuite bathrooms, and superb views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. A hearty breakfast is usually served in the gardens, while a delicious home-cooked dinner (along with soft drinks) is served around a fireplace in the main building.

Ghandruk Lodge: Ghandruk Lodge (previously Himalaya Lodge) is set in the shadow of the Annapurna Mountains and offers unrivalled views of the snow-capped Himalaya amongst all the Ker & Downey Lodges. Accommodation is in 18 comfortably furnished rooms designed to provide outstanding views of the massive peaks of Annapurna South as well as the thriving Ghandruk village, which was once a key recruitment centre for the Gurkha soldier regiment of the British Army. Guests should know that the trail leading to this lodge is a little more challenging than the others, and it takes slightly longer to get there than the other lodges.

Birethanti Lodge: This simple yet delightful lodge offers magnificent views of the distant Fishtail Mountain and is tastefully decorated using locally sourced fabrics and handicrafts. The lodge is located at an altitude of 1,100 metres and provides accommodation in 18 comfortable rooms with ensuite bathrooms. At Birethanti Lodge (previously Sanctuary Lodge), flavourful meals are served in the main building dining room, which features a cosy fireplace and an informal bar area.

Dhampus Lodge: This is the smallest of all the Mountain Lodges of Nepal and is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Dhampus. At an altitude of 1,500 metres, Dhampus Lodge (previously Basanta Lodge) offers accommodation in 8 simply furnished rooms with spectacular panoramic views of the Phedi Valley. Basanta Lodge is where treks through the Annapura mountain range often conclude, and the terrace at this lodge provides an ideal setting to enjoy a G&T and share stories with other guests as the sun sets over the distant snow-capped mountains.

Landruk Lodge: Landruk Lodge (formerly La Bee Lodge) is located across the Modi Khola Valley from Ghandruk and offers outstanding views of the high peaks of the Annapurna Range. From Ghandruk, the journey involves a descent, a suspension bridge crossing, and an ascent, adding a sense of adventure. This relatively new lodge offers accommodation in 12 comfortable rooms designed in a classic Nepalese style. All rooms are furnished with twin beds, modern black-slate en suite bathrooms, and private terraces set overlooking the Annapurna range. Guests can enjoy simple pleasures such as a fireside G&T in a cosy dining room with picture windows, or waking up to the pink morning glow on the Himalaya mountain range.

Tomijong Lodge: Set amongst the Annapurna lowlands and surrounded by terraced paddy fields, Tomijong Lodge (formerly Mala Lodge) is a traditional-style stone building near a quaint bee-keeping village. Accommodation consists of 18 newly built rooms, each featuring comfortable twin beds, slate floors, rafted ceilings, and spacious bathrooms with hot showers and a western-style WC. Set in the shadows of the majestic Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain), this lodge is a serene sanctuary, and while it is not on the regular trekking circuit – it is still an ideal getaway in the Annapurna region offering local day hikes.
