Delightful boutique-style hotel
In the heart of Pondicherry’s vibrant Tamil Quarter, the charming Maison Perumal celebrates the distinct heritage of the region and provides an interesting contrast to the genteel French Quarter.
Once an old family mansion and later a registry office, this heritage building was sensitively converted into a character-rich boutique hotel in 2010. With ventilated interiors, arched colonnades, and foliage courtyards, this boutique hotel draws inspiration from old-world Tamil and French design and excellently uses free spaces and minimalist interiors. Each of the ten individually decorated rooms is of different sizes and features period-style hand-carved wooden bedframes, solid wood furnishings, stained glass windows, and red-oxide floors. At Maison Perumal, the dual-purpose courtyard doubles as an exhibition space for local artists and an informal dining area.
The property’s experienced Chef offers guests a choice of authentic Tamil cuisine and a selection of continental cuisine prepared with local spices, giving it a Franco-Tamil flavour. Additional facilities at Maison Perumal include a small bar that serves beer, emerging Indian wines, and Indian-made whiskies.
