Hatem Al Tai Private Desert Camp

Hatem Al Tai Private Desert Camp is named after an ancient Arabian king renowned for his generosity. Designed to evoke nostalgic thoughts of the golden age of travel when gentleman explorers lived elegantly under canvas, our mobile private desert camps in Oman are pitched in magical desert locations, far from hotels, quad bikes, and the hum of generators.

The Hatem Al Tai Private Desert Camp comprises a spacious hand-stitched canvas tent, a separate Bedouin-style majlis sitting-dining tent, and a loo tent. Within each camp, you’ll be looked after by a welcoming Omani host who will prepare time-honoured traditional recipes and care for your every need. Each tent has a full-sized double (or twin) bed complete with a proper mattress, linens, pillows, and a comfy duvet. Oriental rugs set the Arabian scene. Conveniently placed side tables have torches and mineral water. A camp bed can be provided for a child at request.

The focal point of the Hatem Al Tai private desert camp is the majlis – the traditional meeting point for family and friends in homes in Arabia. This tented area is a beautiful place to come and relax, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and have your meals. After sunset, the firepit is where you may enjoy the sight of a crackling fire while staring up at the starry sky. Before retiring for the night, take time to absorb the quiet and solitude of the desert night and look around to enjoy the breathtaking sight of your private desert camp illuminated by lanterns.

To maintain the atmosphere of the camp, we don’t use a generator. Alcohol is not provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Important Notes: (i) Please note that there will be timed lighting to illuminate the campsite but no generator to disturb the peace. (ii) As temperatures plunge after sunset we recommend taking warm clothing for the evenings and early mornings.
