Famed for its swimming elephants, beautiful Gal Oya National Park is away from the beaten track, yet it is easily accessible from Sri Lanka’s south coast and the southern highlands.
On the edge of the park, amongst 20 acres of pristine wilderness, Gal Oya Lodge is a rustic yet tastefully decorated property surrounded by scenic mountains and Sri Lanka’s largest lake. Accommodation at Gal Oya Lodge comprises spacious, eco-friendly thatched bungalows built using natural materials.
Each bungalow has a bedroom with a four-poster bed, a living room with a private verandah, a bathroom with twin vanity units, and both indoor and outdoor showers. For families and friends travelling together, there is a two-bedroom villa with a spacious open-plan living room linking the two bedrooms.
Facilities at Gal Oya Lodge include an open-sided restaurant and bar serving delicious traditional Sri Lankan, and Western cuisine prepared using fresh vegetables and meat sourced from local communities. The bar is well-stocked with a selection of popular Sri Lankan beers and imported spirits. Gal Oya Lodge also has an outdoor swimming pool to relax in between safaris.
