Kathmandu’s finest heritage hotel

Dwarika’s history is intertwined with the life of its founder, Dwarika Das Shrestha. In the early 1950s, during a time when much of Kathmandu’s traditional carved wooden pillars, doors and window frames were being recycled into “better” timber or reduced to firewood, Dwarika Das Shrestha began collecting every piece he could, without realising the importance it would take on in the future creation of Dwarika’s Hotel and in preserving Newari cultural heritage.

Dwarika purchased the land upon which the hotel stands today in the late 1950s and built a small family home. Even then, his eye for historical detail and cultural heritage was incorporated into the design, and the first antique window he used in the house can still be seen today in the hotel’s Fusion Bar. For a unique hotel experience, attentive service, delicious traditional Newari cuisine, and comfortable rooms, a stay at Dwarika’s rarely disappoints.
