Divan’s Bungalow

Originally the private residence of the Divan of Radhanpur, the simple yet character-rich Divan’s Bungalow is located within the old walled city of Ahmedabad and is ideal for those seeking an immersive experience. Built nearly 160 years ago, this converted hotel, with its colonial façade, floral plasterwork, wooden jharokhas (balconies), inviting verandas and bright stained glass windows, sports a unique architectural style that showcases European influences as well as Islamic patterns and still retains the air of a grand family home.

Accommodation is in eight spacious, individually designed rooms, tastefully furnished with eclectic pieces of furniture, beautiful wall hangings and block-printed fabrics. All rooms have different colour themes, and it must be noted that no two rooms are of the same size; while some rooms feature a traditional wooden balcony overlooking the inner courtyard, some rooms feature a spacious living room in addition to the bedroom.

At Divan’s Bungalow, tasty, traditional Gujarati, as well as Indian cuisine, is served either in the inner courtyard or in the main dining room. And while the food is predominantly Indian, with advance notice, the kitchen staff will be more than happy to cater to any special requests. Guests staying at Divan’s Bungalow must know this hotel does not have a pool or licence to serve alcohol. While the lively old town setting is an unlikely location for a hotel, this is more than compensated by its charm and character.
