Dhensa Boutique Resort

Set on a steep, thickly forested mountainside overlooking the Punakha Valley and the Mo Chhu River below, Dhensa is a moderately priced boutique resort with an architectural style that resembles some of Bhutan’s exclusive luxury Dzong-like lodges.

Although service here isn’t always as seamless as one would wish, a serene Zen-like atmosphere pervades over the whitewashed buildings, exposed stone walls, and wide paved courtyards making Dhensa a relaxing base from which to explore the Punakha Valley.

The hotel’s 24 spacious suites have been designed in a contemporary minimalist Bhutanese style and are spread between six double-storied cottages. All rooms encapsulate the beauty of simplicity and have balconies and bathtubs with a view set next to French windows. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided.

Flights of stairs descend from the rooms to Dhensa’s restaurant, which offers guests alternating buffets and set menus that feature favourite Bhutanese, Asian and Western dishes. Where possible, the menu is created using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

Guests looking to recharge and revive tired muscles may wish to visit the Dhensa Spa with its two fully equipped double treatment rooms (for couples), sauna, and steam room.
