Charming 18th-century mansion

Bari Kothi is a beautiful 18th-century mansion restored to its former glory and is the finest heritage-style hotel in Murshidabad. With its imposing Doric and Corinthian columns, high ceilings, long corridors lined with chandeliers, stained glass windows, patterned tiles and original doors and windows, Bari Kothi retains many of its original features and showcases influences of Greek, Roman as well as French architecture.

This charming hotel offers accommodation in 15 individually designed, meticulously kept rooms and suites tastefully furnished in traditional style with period furniture, fine fabrics and essential modern comforts. The upgraded Royal Heritage Rooms are appointed with original furniture dating back to the 18th century and open onto the Sheesh Mahal. In contrast, the three Maharaja Suites, with their intricately carved archways, high wooden-beam ceilings and hand-picked furniture, offer guests a glimpse into the gracious lifestyle of the Nawabs.

At Bari Kothi, there are three dining rooms, including the magnificent Durbar Hall with its 18-seater dining table and Naubat Khana – a Mughal-inspired dining room with hand-painted murals, while breakfast is usually offered at the Café on the banks of the river. The food provided at Bari Kothi is predominantly Indian vegetarian delicacies, including a traditional ‘thali’ served during lunch, focusing on Sheherwali cuisine (regional cuisine from Rajasthan).

Activities on offer include a range of immersive and cultural experiences, including guided heritage walks through Murshidabad and the surrounding village, visits to the terracotta temples at Baranagar, and a sunset boat ride on the Ganges.
