Tranquil retreat with just eight luxury suites
Set on a forested hill with sweeping views of the magnificent Phobjikha Valley and the 16th-century Gangtey Goempa monastery, the luxurious Amankora Gangtey Lodge provides a magical and tranquil base from which to explore the raw beauty of this remote region.
This cosy low-lying eight-room lodge has minimalist interiors and is built in the style of a contemporary Bhutanese Dzong with dry-stone walls and whitewashed earth-packed walls. The combined Living and Dining Room has floor-to-ceiling windows leading out onto a paved terrace with a firepit.
Large coffee table books are strewn around the living room, creating the feeling of being in a very smart home away from home.
The staff here are always eager to please and attentive. All meals are included in the room tariff, as are house beverages (a supplement applies for premium drinks), which means that while the upfront cost is higher at Amankora than at other choices, billable extras are likely to be minimal. Looking out over the Pobjikha Valley, the spacious open-plan suites are identical to those at Amankora Thimpu Lodge.
Each suite combines wood-panelling and chocolate brown walls and has a king-sized bed, banquette window seat, traditional Bukhari wood-burning stove, twin vanities, a terrazzo-clad bathtub, and a separate shower.
Spa facilities consist of two treatment rooms and a hot stone bath on Amankora Gangtey Lodge’s ground floor.
