Adrere Amellal

Adrere Amellal is a beautifully sited ecolodge that nestles below the landmark white mountain from which it derives its name. Located in Egypt’s remote Siwa Oasis, Adrere Amellal resembles a traditional Siwan village and is built from salt stone and karshif, a local adobe-like salt-impregnated mud, and looks out over the blue waters of Lake Zeytun, date palms, and yellow dunes of the Sahara.

Accommodation is in thirty-nine simply decorated rooms and suites spread between several buildings. Within the ecolodge’s rooms, local rugs are strewn across the floor; walls are covered in distressed plaster, beams of rough date palm trunks form the ceiling, and doors that are tied together with rope open onto the dark interiors. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, a washbasin, W/C and a shower. Some rooms have outside terraces with tables and chairs and day beds. At night, candles can illuminate your room, and paraffin lamps light up the ecolodge’s paths and stairways.

Adrere Amellal is offered on an all-inclusive meals and drinks package. Meals are a true highlight of any stay and are crafted from local ingredients inspired by Siwan recipes. Atmospheric sitting areas and dining areas are scattered throughout the property. Overlooking the ecolodge, the bar has fine views of the lake and desert beyond. When not exploring, this is an ideal spot to relax and read a book, listen to the silence, look up at the brilliant canopy of the night sky, or take a cooling dip in the spring-fed swimming pool. Guests should be aware that Adrere Amellal is not for everyone. Besides being very rustic in its style, Amdere Amellal has no electricity or Wi-Fi. Bedroom doors cannot be locked.
