Boutique guesthouse in fashionable Colaba district
The Abode Mumbai is a stylish, boutique-style guesthouse and an intimate oasis in Colaba, an up-market, fashionable district in South Mumbai. Originally a small, low-key family hotel, The Abode was transformed into a funky, chic hotel in 2013 by Abedin Sham, who inherited the property from his parents. This small hotel, which occupies a heritage building amidst the intense hubbub of Mumbai, has been tastefully decorated by combining Art Deco style with relics from India’s colonial era and custom-designed furniture by local artisans.
All the 20 thoughtfully designed rooms reveal an interesting mixture of old-world charm and contemporary comforts and are supremely comfortable. At the Abode Bombay, we recommend the Luxury and Superior Luxury Rooms as they are relatively spacious and feature windows, albeit overlooking Bombay’s busy streets. For those seeking value, we recommend the small, well-appointed, Simple Rooms, which are comfortable and feature an ensuite bathroom and a walk-in rain shower. Guests choosing to stay at The Abode Bombay should be aware that we do not recommend the three small Basic Rooms, which share a toilet between them (these rooms feature an ensuite shower, though), and some do not feature a window.
At The Abode Bombay, breakfast is served in the cosy, stylish lobby lounge with exposed brick walls and retro-style fittings. After that, this inviting lounge doubles as an ideal venue to meet fellow travellers or browse books in Mumbai. There is a light all-day menu featuring snacks and sandwiches inspired by Bombay’s gymkhana club teas and Bombay’s hugely popular street food. For those who would like to have a sumptuous lunch or dinner, we suggest you head out to one of the many cafés in the neighbourhood that are only a short walk from the hotel. Facilities include a dedicated Spa Room, and upon request, the hotel can arrange a local, independent therapist to provide a range of treatments. There is no swimming pool at this hotel, and it must be noted that as The Abode Bombay does not have an alcohol licence – guests are encouraged to bring their own.
