Award-winning eco-friendly retreat amidst tea gardens

In the quiet mountain town of Ella, the eco-friendly 98 Acres hotel is set within a working tea estate with outstanding views of the valley, Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak. Accommodation is in twelve simple yet stylish rooms spread between six chalets that are perched along the terraced slopes of the estate and offer wonderful views of the scenic hills.

Inspired by the tented accommodation originally used by the plantation workers, rooms are decorated in a minimalist style and tastefully furnished. All rooms feature local granite stone, wood columns, bamboo roofs thatched with Illuk straw, and timber floors made from discarded railway sleepers.

The hotel restaurant and lounge both have glorious views. Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is served in the restaurant, while speciality teas from the estate are offered in the lounge. Facilities include a swimming pool, and for active guests, there are mountain bikes to explore the surrounding area.

The in-house naturalists arrange guided bird-watching tours around the property. Other optional activities at 98 Acres include visiting a tea factory and trekking to Little Adam’s Peak.
