Chambal Safari Lodge

Surrounded by lush paddy fields, Chambal Safari Lodge is a small, delightful, eco-sensitive property that is set among 35 acres of woodland and offers a relaxing atmosphere for guests to experience the tempo of rural India while well engaging in activities, including nature walks and river safaris through the scenic Chambal Valley. The warm and friendly hosts – Anu and Ram Pratap Singh, have created a welcoming environment for everyone to experience a fascinating region that is off-the-usual-tourist-trail and yet close to Agra.

Accommodation comprises 14 individually designed and elegantly decorated rooms and cottages scattered around the estate. No two rooms are of the same size, and while the two rooms in the main house feature period furniture and colonial-style décor, the other rooms and cottages blend traditional style architecture with essential contemporary comforts. All rooms and cottages have a private veranda that overlooks the tranquil paddy fields or the woodland.

The spacious grounds of the Chambal Safari Lodge are filled with flowering plants and mature trees that provide shelter to numerous birds and civet cats and complement the early morning nature walks with rambles through the lodge grounds at sunset. Chambal Safari Lodge serves home-cooked meals prepared using freshly sourced ingredients and recipes handed down through generations. The buffet meals are served in the garden or the dining room, originally a horse-stable block.

Other facilities at Chambal Safari Lodge include a small library with books and indoor board games. The rural location of this lodge means it suffers from an erratic electricity supply. Although generators provide backup power in the mornings and evenings and all rooms have solar lamps, torchlights and candles, please be prepared for power outages. Similarly, whilst the ensuite bathrooms have hot water geysers and showers available, this eco-friendly lodge recommends bucket baths. Chambal Safari Lodge is an ideal venue if you enjoy the outdoors or are a keen birder.
