Nimmu House

A jewel of traditional Ladakhi architecture, Nimmu House is set against the gorgeous backdrop of the Stok-Kangri mountain range, surrounded by a beautiful orchard full of apricot, apple and walnut trees. This warm and atmospheric boutique hotel is located in Nimmu village (near Leh) and was built in the early 20th century by the Nangsos, a family related to the then kings of Ladakh.

Accommodation comprises four tastefully decorated rooms within the main house and five tents pitched within the attractive gardens. Each of the nine rooms and tents has a private ensuite bathroom with a western toilet, washbasin and hot shower. Nimmu House’s rooms are decorated in the traditional Ladakhi style, with wooden floors and beautiful hand-made furniture. All offer stunning views looking out over the surrounding garden and orchard. The five luxurious tents are scattered throughout the gardens. They are partitioned into three parts: a chill zone at the entrance featuring large windows ideal for relaxing and reading, a spacious bedroom decorated in Ladakhi style, and a private ensuite bathroom. Hammocks and chairs placed outside each tent complete the relaxing garden living experience.

The cuisine at Nimmu House primarily consists of traditional Ladakhi specialities. Everything is home-cooked and prepared using fresh ingredients from the vegetable garden and local producers. Breakfasts and lunches are served on the outdoor terrace, while dinner is served in the antique and curio-filled dining room. The property offers cookery lessons and has an advantageous position for exploring the surrounding region. Nimmu House is located at a lower altitude than Leh, making it an ideal place to acclimatise on arrival in Ladakh.
